As I was composing this piece, I felt it was about yearning: for explanations, for expressivity, for regions of the instrument left unexplored. I chose the title not only for its meaning (“thirst” in French) but also its sound, whose envelope is analogous to that of many events in the work, large and small. I would like to express my greatest thanks to Miranda Cuckson for the opportunity to work with her on this project.
